BCSC Course

For the month of January, PGY-2 residents are sent to a Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology. In prior years our residents have attended a course in Houston, Texas. In 2020, 2023 and 2024 the residents attended the in person course at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. At the Basic Science Course, they attend over one hundred hours of didactic lectures led by more than 80 renown clinicians and scientists as well as participate in various practical sessions including an orbital dissection, anatomy and histology laboratories, a phacoemulsification wet lab, and workshops in oculoplastics fillers and facial rejuvenation, ultrasound and Pentacam imaging, retinoscopy, refraction, and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery. During this month, residents are relieved of their call duties and clinical responsibilities by the PGY-I residents.
